example of a well-written focus question from indian in the cupboardHow does Omri feel about the Indian?
Class C: Omri has mixed emotions about the Indian because at first he doesn't like him, but then he is excited he comes to life! Omri wasn't happy with the Indian because he wanted different gifts for his birthday. Then, the Indian came to life and Omri was surprised and amazed! On p.7 it says, "The first coherent thought that came into Omri's mind as he began to get over the shock was, 'I must call the others!'" That's how Omri feels about the Indian. CLASS B: Omri's feelings about the Indian changed during the chapter. At the beginning, Omri didn't think he was that special. He felt like it was a piece of junk that Patrick didn't want. Then, Omri realized that the Indian was alive and became more excited and interested in him. On p. 9, it says, "Omri thought he was magnificient." That's how Omri's feelings changed during the chapter. CLASS A: I think Omri feels that the Indian is boring, shocking, exciting, and someone he has to protect! To start, Omri looked at the toy and really didn't want it. Then, the Indian came to life! On the top of p.9, it says, "The Indian gave a fantastic leap in the air. His black hair flew and the fringes on his leggings fluttered." Omri has to rush home from school to care for him and make sure he has food and water. This is how I know Omri felt bored, shocked, excited, and protective of the Indian. |
